Miss Ford Bursaries

Our society and our associate society, L鈥橝ssociation M茅dical Franco-Britannique were founded to facilitate education, cultural exchange, and friendship between the medical professions of both countries.

Miss Ford, who was general De Gaulle鈥檚 driver during the war, wished to foster good relations between France and Britain. A legacy from her trust forms the nucleus of the funding for these bursaries.

The aims for the bursaries are to aid medical students from Britain and France to spend elective attachments in establishments speaking each other鈥檚 languages and to build a database of information about such attachments as a resource for future students.

About the Bursary:

The closing date for applications is 1st December. The judging panel meets in December / early January.

The criteria used for the decision are the stated objectives of the applicants with regards to what they want to achieve on their elective and how they will improve their grasp of the French language by completing their elective project.

Students who will be completing their attachment before the panel convenes will be considered providing that their completed application has been received by the society before they leave for their attachment.

Successful applicants are expected to complete a factual report form with information to be used on our web page for the benefit of future students.

Unsuccessful applicants are also invited to do provide a report. We offer 拢50 for each satisfactory report.

The panel will select a winning entrant who will be invited, with expenses paid, to give a presentation at our annual clinical conference. This student will be eligible to enter the separate James Tudor Prize which is awarded at the meeting by the combined membership of both societies.
